The knees are among the most overloaded joints in the body. As result, the number of people living with knee pain is astounding. In many cases, massage can be of tremendous relief. But how does a massage therapist go about affecting tissues that are generally unresponsive to bodywork?
In this 6-hour workshop, we will look at the reasons why knees get into trouble. And why, what is frequently tried by massage therapists, so often fails. We will also learn how to help our clients make informed decisions about what they need to do to become pain-free.
In this workshop, participants will learn:
- Overview of how it is primarily the relationship between the hips and ankles that determines the fate of the knees.
- Explanation of the IT-Band will help ensure that participants have a solid (and practical) understanding of what massage can and cannot do to influence this complex structure.
- Specific palpatory skills necessary for effective work.
- Techniques to help relieve knee pain.
The aim of this class is to ensure that the massage therapist feels comfortable and confident working "overloaded knees."
