500 Hour Massage Training Curriculum:

  • Sports & Deep Tissue Massage

    • Sports massage prepares muscles and joints for athletic activity or assists in recovery from a specific sports activity.

  • Swedish Massage

    • The Lauterstein-Conway’s Swedish massage training includes history, contraindications, body mechanics, basic strokes (effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, tapotement, and Swedish massage movements), and working with special populations (pregnancy massage, geriatric massage, etc.).

  • Deep Massage: The Lauterstein Method

    • Deep Massage approach utilizes trigger points, deep effleurage, cross-fiber work, and other advanced techniques to help clients more permanently live without unnecessary tension and pain. Deep Massage, as we teach it, is an approach that is both easier on the therapist and more effective for the client.

  • Clinical Massage Therapy

    • In clinical massage therapy, students learn advanced techniques and how to analyze problems related to chronic or acute injury, poor posture, movement imbalances, and/or life stresses. They learn how to respond to these problems with appropriate applications of circulatory massage, deep massage, myofascial release, and cross-fiber work and trigger points.

  • Anatomy and Physiology

    • Anatomy, with human physiology and biochemistry, is primarily the scientific study of the morphology of the human body.

  • Kinesiology

    • Kinesiology, derived from the Greek word kinesis, is the science of human movement. Students will learn the actions of all the major muscles, how they work together to orchestrate movement. Students will also learn how chronic muscle tension can give rise to pain, postural and movement imbalances.

  • Pathology

    • Pathology is the study of the nature of disease or any deviation from a healthy condition. In Lauterstein-Conway’s pathology training, students learn pathology including medical terminology, pathology for each body system, psychological and emotional states (depression, anxiety, grief, etc.).

  • Hydrotherapy

    • Hydrotherapy is also known as water therapy, is the use of water to relieve discomfort and promote physical well-being. Lauterstein-Conway’s hydrotherapy training addresses the theory and practical use of water of various temperatures, in solid, liquid, and gaseous forms, for cleansing and vitalizing effects.

  • Health and Hygiene

    • Communication skills, boundaries, ethics, professional attire, self-care, and the issue of sensuality and massage are addressed in Lauterstein-Conway’s health and hygiene training. Movement skills, diet exercise, use of disinfectants, universal precautions, first aid, and CPR are also covered in this portion of the training.

  • Business Practice & Ethics

    • Because many massage therapists are self-employed, students will receive a strong foundation in business. Massage business training is one of the most important aspects of any massage school program. Often, how well a student does in this part of the training determines how well they do in the massage therapy industry.

  • Chair Massage and Community Service Projects

    • Students get 6 hours of community service working with various institutions providing chair massage which gives some real-world hands-on practice while getting the opportunity to market yourself to the public.

  • Pregnancy Massage

    • Learn proper draping and massage techniques in the side-lying position for pregnancy.

  • Internship

    • Your 50 hour internship will be done here.   You are allowed to start your internship when you’ve gotten halfway into your program. Students practice their therapeutic, communication, and business skills and will receive extensive practice in Swedish, Sports and Deep Massage while working on a wide variety of internship clients drawn from the community.
