Workshop Description:

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a disorder that causes pain and weakness in the hand and wrist. CTS is the most common entrapment neuropathy, affecting approximately 3 to 6 percent of adults in the general population. As a therapist, you will undoubtedly work with many people who have experienced, are experiencing, or are at risk of developing CTS. CTS is commonly referred to as a repetitive strain injury (RSI). Since the 1970s there has been a worldwide increase in RSIs of the arms, hands, neck, and shoulder attributed to the widespread use of typewriters/computers in the workplace that require long periods of repetitive motions in a fixed posture. Any occupation or recreation that involves gripping and repeating motions can result in a RSI.

In this 6 hour workshop you’ll learn:

  • Causes of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Musculoskeletal anatomy of the Carpal Tunnel and Forearm Flexors
  • Special Assessment Tests to differentially evaluate CTS
  • Myofascial Assessment and Release Techniques for the wrist
  • Active release, cross fiber, and deep tissue techniques for the forearm flexors
  • Hand and Forearm stretches
  • Self massage techniques for prevention and treatment
Items to bring/wear for this workshop include:

  • 1 Set of Sheets

  • 1 Small pillow or medium towel for positioning

  • Loose, Comfortable Clothing

  • A light sweater or jacket is recommended as temperatures in meeting areas are sometimes difficult to control

About the Instructor:

Kevin Graef headshot

Kevin Graef, LMT, MTI, graduated the 500 hour Massage Therapy Training Program at Lauterstein-Conway Massage School in 2009 and the Advanced Program in 2011. His approach to bodywork is noteworthy for taking the time to feel what is going on with his clients and not rushing the unwinding of deeply held tension. His teaching style reflects this same philosophy; he ignites the passion and curiosity that he discovers in his students and helps them to fully develop their massage skills. In his free time, Kevin enjoys flora, fauna, swimming, and eating clean and yummy foods.
