In September 2010, Lauterstein-Conway Massage School (TLCschool) will begin offering career services and job placement support for its massage school students and graduating massage therapists.
The idea came from the rising needs of massage industry employers looking for quality massage therapists. Since 2009, Lauterstein-Conway Massage School has seen a 205 percent increase in requests for massage therapists through its online job board.
Massage Harmony owner and massage therapist, Derrick Amoriko, says, “It is the first time there are more massage jobs than there are therapists.”
Treuter will meet with each massage school student during the business plan development component of the 500-hour professional massage training. Her goal during this time will be to provide specific guidance for individual students as they plan for a career in massage therapy.
After graduation, students will have the option to meet with Treuter again for support during the implementation of their business plans.
“Many massage schools do not have systematic support for the students to plan and then to execute their business plan.” said Co-Director, David Lauterstein. “We hope our new career services program will help provide that support.”
In an effort to help students and graduates find massage jobs after graduation, Treuter will also network with local and national employers to build connections within the massage industry. While TLCschool will not provide job placement, it will support students in getting connected to employers hiring licensed massage therapists.
Gina Trueter’s first-hand experience with TLCschool’s professional training, successfully run private massage practice and employment history in clinic management positions in massage clinics, fitness centers, salons, spas, chiropractic offices and medical settings makes her a strong, well-rounded candidate for the Career Services Consultant position.
The Lauterstein-Conway Massage School was started in 1989 by David Lauterstein and John Conway. In 2009 TLCschool was voted U.S. Massage School of the Year.
